Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante is a dining establishment located in Disneyland Park, specifically in the Frontierland area, offering Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. The restaurant's theme is inspired by the architecture and ambiance of Spanish and Mexican colonial buildings. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and other Mexican favorites. Rancho del Zocalo is known for its flavorful and hearty food, and it provides a unique dining experience in the Disneyland Resort. The restaurant often features outdoor seating in a courtyard area, and it can be a great place to relax and refuel during your visit to the park. Please note that menus and offerings at Disney restaurants can change, so it's a good idea to check the latest information before planning your visit.

Before Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurante, Casa de Fritos was the original historic restaurant

that served Mexican fare at Disneyland. In fact, it played a significant role in the theme park's culinary history. Casa de Fritos opened in 1955, the same year that Disneyland itself opened. The restaurant was among the earliest eateries in Disneyland and offered Mexican-inspired dishes to visitors. Casa de Fritos is particularly famous for its role in the creation of the popular snack known as Doritos. Legend has it that in the early 1960s, Casa de Fritos had a surplus of stale tortillas. Instead of throwing them away, a restaurant

employee, Archibald Clark West, cut the tortillas into triangles, fried them, and seasoned them with a special blend of spices. These seasoned tortilla chips were an instant hit and became known as "Doritos," which means "little bits of gold" in Spanish. Frito-Lay, the snack food division of PepsiCo, saw the potential in Doritos and partnered with Casa de Fritos to mass-produce and market the product. Doritos quickly became a popular snack and remains one of Frito-Lay's signature products today. Over the years, Casa de Fritos underwent changes in its menu and theme. It eventually evolved into different restaurants such as Casa Mexicana restaurant in 1982. While Casa de Fritos no longer exists, its legacy lives on through the creation of Doritos, a snack that has become a staple in the world of packaged snacks. The story of Casa de Fritos and the birth of Doritos is an interesting part of Disneyland's history and its connection to popular culture.
