The evolution of fashion during the twentieth century was truly a sight to behold. The women wore their gorgeous dresses, nicest pearls, and beautiful bouffants. The men put on their sleekest looking suit fashioned with a matching hairdo. This is the inspiration for Disneyland Dapper Day. Disneyland Dapper Day is an event dripping with nostalgia and meant for people to celebrate the fashion and lifestyle of various decades.
If this sounds like this event was made for you, then hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen.
DAPPER DAY is an organization that produces events that let you "step out in style!" They also create lots of fun accessories and fashion collaborations and are meant to showcase guests at their best. Dapper Day does not aim to recreate a specific period, all sophisticated attire is encouraged from vintage-inspired classics to chic and contemporary looks. Active and retired military are encouraged to wear their dress blues or service uniforms if they like. (Please note, costumes or full cosplays are better suited for other events.)
Started in February 2011 by LA designer Justin J. DAPPER DAY Events celebrates fun, refined style from yesterday and today. The DAPPER DAY Expo at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA, is the biggest style celebration in California with nearly 30,000 square feet of clothing and accessories, jewelry, barbers, beauty products, and beyond. DAPPER DAY is also a personal accessories brand which reflects a fun and bright "whimsical-chic" aesthetic. To visit the online shop, CLICK HERE.
DAPPER DAY Outings happen semi-annually at the Disney Parks in the spring and fall in Anaheim and Orlando, and annually at Disneyland Paris. The Disney events usually include a DAPPER DAY "Outing to the Parks," plus other happenings outside the parks such as the DAPPER DAY Expo. Various additional events, parties, pop-ups, or seminars may be a part of the seasonal Disney outings, and change with each event. Since Dapper Day isn't a private event, you will need to purchase your own park tickets or use your annual pass, if you have one. To gain access to discounted park tickets and hotel rates, you’ll want to sign up for the Dapper Day Newsletter HERE.
One of the most popular events is The DAPPER DAY EXPO, available only at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA. The DAPPER DAY EXPO is not a standard convention; however the Expo in Anaheim does require a DAPPER DAY Expo ticket to enter, which will be available online in advance, and at the door. For future events Dapper Day may begin requiring registration to access certain discounts or events. EXPO Tickets are $10 to attend. While other Dapper Days may feature boutiques or other events, Disneyland is the only Dapper Day location that features an expansive expo. During the expo, the Disneyland Hotel Exhibit Hall will be transformed into a 30,000 square foot marketplace for handmade and vintage clothing, accessories, cosmetics, jewelry, shoes, eyewear, and more. Plus, you’ll find a wide assortment of Dapper Day merchandise! You can purchase tickets in advance here.
It’s important to remember that while you can pay homage to a Disney character in your outfit with colors or accessories, you cannot wear a costume or impersonate a Disney character. Face paint, weapons and overly revealing clothes also are not allowed. To read the official costume rules of the Disney Parks, visit their website here.
However, Comfort is Key. To fully enjoy your Disney Day, you’ll want to keep comfort in mind even if you’re dressing up! If you’d like to ride roller coasters and water rides, make sure to pick your outfit accordingly. Don’t forget about comfortable shoes! Remember to arrive early. The parks will be full on Dapper Day, so make sure to arrive early if you haven’t purchased tickets yet or if you want a shorter wait for all the best photo spots. DAPPER DAY events celebrate sophisticated dressing and timeless style from yesterday and today, with a bit of fun. Everyone is encouraged to participate by dressing up. Due to the 1950s feel of Disneyland, many guests enjoy working mid-century-inspired ensembles for our DAPPER DAY outings to that park, but this is optional. We are not trying to recreate a specific period. Just as people once dressed in their Sunday best in the 50's and 60's when visiting Disneyland, Dapper Day continues that tradition with a fun contemporary flair.
